Interdependent Living Solutions Center, Inc. (ILSC) is an IRS 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Founded in 1999 by Executive Director Valencia Whitely, a Registered Nurse. The organization is guided by a Board of Directors and Advisory Council. Through its tenure as a charitable organization, ILSC purchased Genesis Place, located in Evergreen Park, Illinois, transforming the house into a 16-person supportive housing residence. Originally Genesis Place served frail seniors. However, in 2013, ILSC transitioned services to its current programs, including Permanent Supportive Housing for Disabled Veterans and Senior Residential Program. As of 2004, ILSC integrated Job Training and Employment Placement services (currently being restructured - see strategic plan).
ILSC receives public and private support. The organization is the recipient of public grants from the Department of Housing and Urban Development, Illinois' Department of Human Services, the Illinois Housing Development Authority, the Cook County Development Block Grant and Veterans Cash Grant. Private foundation support includes the Corporation for Supportive Housing and The Retirement Research Foundation, as well as donations from private individuals. Interdependent Living Solutions Center, Inc. (ILSC) has always achieved a very high standard of scoring with its funders for the manner in which programs and housing are delivered and maintained.
The Board of Directors, along with the Executive Director, is currently developing and implementing a strategic plan to further expand the vision and mission of the organizational and program needs for the next 3-5 years. The areas of development include the identification and cultivation of strategic relationships with corporate and private entities, Board development and re-implementation of job training programs and employment placement for veterans and unskilled individuals.
